Your hair is is really what tells your age.
We spend hundreds of dollars each year on sunscreens, moisturizers, creams and lotions all to prevent signs of aging in our skin. But what are you doing to prevent the signs of aging in your hair? Think about the daily abuse of heat, combing and brushing along with the increased environmental elements that your hair is exposed to week after week, month after month and year after year. Grey, dull, thinning, frizzy hair is bound to happen. So, here are a few tips to reverse the aging process in your hair:
Get the right cut
Cut your hair to get a look that works for you. Despite the latest trends and fads, stick with the cut that’s best for your hair type, texture and facial shape. In most cases, get a neutral, adaptable haircut that gives you options for the future and steer clear of short, blunt bangs or bobs.
Make sure your hair is healthy
Start in the shower. Us the right shampoos and conditioners for your hair type.
Beware of heat-styling tools and use them only when necessary.
Use less shampoo
Always use moisturizing or color protecting shampoo. Read the labels and stay clear of drying sulfates in your hair care products. To replenish luster and shine, look for shampoos and conditioners with dimethicone (a shine enhancer) and cetyl alcohol (a moisturizing ingredient). Water is highly dulling for your hair. If you don’t shampoo every time you shower, coat your hair with conditioner whenever it’s exposed to any kind of water. Rinse thoroughly for about a minute.
Go easy on wet hair
Never dry your hair immediately with a towel, this creates frizz and split ends.
Don’t comb directly – just untangle it with big tooth comb (or your fingers) and wait for it to dry.Use conditioner once or twice a week or oil your hair before the shampoo (pre-poo).
Dullness, dryness, split ends and frizz are all compounded by blow-dryers, flatirons, and curling irons. Wet-to-dry-hair straightening irons also wreak havoc.
Do not use professional grade tools and if you do, keep them at the right distance to avoid damage to the hair. When you use them, shield your strands with a heat-protectant spray — and supplement with weekly deep-conditioning treatments. Always test a hot flat iron or curling iron on a towel to make sure it’s not too hot before applying it to your hair.
Don’t lose it
Use shampoo with a low pH to ensure less damage to the roots.
Use protein laced products to nourish your hair.
Take appropriate precautions to prevent your hair loss due to hormonal imbalance. Supplement with iron, biotin or omega fatty acids to give you the right healthy balance for healthy hair.
