Why You Should Be Massaging Your Scalp

Nothing beats a deep, relaxing, penetrating body massage to work out the kinks of sore muscles, relieve tension or to simply de-stress.  While many of use invest hundreds of dollars in regular massages a year, you are missing  an important part of your wellness routine that you could be doing every day.  The best part of all..it’s absolutely FREE.

Many people overlook the benefits of a great scalp massage. It can decrease your stress levels and elevate your mood instantly.  Scalp massages releases the mood booster serotonin, a chemical neurotransmitter that releases that warm and fuzzy feeling in your brain.  Serotonin is also found in anti-depressant medications and mood stabilizers.  But with just a few circular motions of your fingertips, you can get that same benefit anytime you need it.

Scalp massages are the catalysts for healthy hair growth.  One of my best friends is a massage therapist.  She incorporates a scalp massage in every treatment for each one of her clients.  She commented how one of her clients was amazed how her hair was growing like crazy in one section of her head. Well, that happens to be the same section my friend massages during her visit.  Scalp massages promotes circulation to the hair follicles which stimulates hair growth.

A scalp massage should be an integral part of your hair care regimen.  Once to three times a week, spend 5 to 10 minutes massaging your scalp. Or have someone do it for you (which can be quite sexy..but I digress). Place your hands in an L-shape and massage your scalp in a circular motion starting at the hairline.  You can spend the money on a scalp massager but why should you when your fingers will do the trick just fine? Continue this motion throughout your scalp starting at the front and working your way towards the back.  Incorporate a light coconut or olive oil during this routine and your scalp (and hair) will love you for it!
